Jenny (Dyer) Young grew up on the family farm and has been a part of the Warren County Fair since she was toddling around the Pork Producer stand, where her parents and grandparents volunteered. Jen could also be found watching the cattle show, where her grandpa Harry would be in the stands, or looking through all the beautiful quilts where her grandma Martha showed off her skills. She joined the White Oak Climbers 4-H Club and grew to hold various officer positions. Jen exhibited static exhibits as well as livestock at the county and state level.
Her daughter, Emma, was a 3rd-generation Warren County 4-H'er as a member of the Indianola Goal Achievers. When her club needed a new leader, Jen jumped at the opportunity to get involved in 4-H again and led the club for over 10 years. During that time, she was also a member of the 4-H Youth Committee and served on the Warren County Extension Council.
While Jen appreciated the time and effort her club members put into their 4-H projects, she always placed more emphasis on what each member learned through their project as opposed to what color ribbon ended up attached to it. You could often hear her say, “You learn far more through your mistakes than you think. Those mistakes you made this year will lead to success next time around.”
Jen plans to stay involved with the Warren County Fair and is taking her own advice and trying something new by participating in the genealogy division for the first time. She also plans to start exhibiting at the Iowa State Fair and would like to become a 4-H judge for static exhibits.
