Education
Ellsworth Community College/ Iowa State University for Animal Science and Agricultural Communication
Current Position / Explain your role
K-12 Program Coordinator for Kossuth County Extension & Outreach - in school and after/out of school programming for youth ages K-12
Did 4-H influence what you studied or the profession you went into? If so, how?
Absolutely! I developed a love of agriculture and animal science through my 4-H experience, and it helped me choose what to study in college. I always wanted to give back to the program that gave so much to me, so it only made sense that I went into the extension profession to provide the extraordinary opportunities and experiences to youth!
How did 4-H help you be ready for the workforce or for college?
My 4-H experience helped me learn how to work hard, stay dedicated, and give 110% in everything I do, whether that was school, internships, work, or even raising livestock. I knew from my 4-H experience that to succeed in college and the workforce I had to work hard and do the very best I can.
What skills gained through 4-H benefited you the most as a college student and into your career?
4-H taught me a lot of dedication and determination. If someone says something is too hard to complete or it will take too much work, that just makes me more determined to complete that project or goal
What advice would you give to other young 4-H alums?
Take every opportunity you can, even if it is nerve racking or you aren’t sure you’re going to be perfect at something. I always tell my 4-Hers if you are going to perfect at something, what is the point of continuing to do it? You have to start somewhere and work up to that level of perfection, so one day you can look back and say “how look how far I’ve come!”
