Rhonda has spent most of her life in Wright County, working as a private contractor and as a teacher at CGD. Her 4-H journey began in fourth grade and continued through seventh grade; after focusing on school activities in junior high and high school, she returned to 4-H as a parent when her daughter, Nesha, became involved. Rhonda and her family participated with the Blaine Blue Ribbon Winners and consistently exhibited static projects and livestock at the Wright County Fair.
Her favorite project as a youth was sewing; she fondly recalls making bathroom curtains that were used for many years. Sewing became a lifelong, practical skill Rhonda still uses for mending, sewing children’s clothes, and making gifts.
One of her most cherished memories is meeting her future husband at the Wright County Fair—an encounter that began in junior high and grew into a lasting relationship.
As an adult and 4-H supporter, Rhonda served on the Wright County Extension Board and currently serves on the Wright County Youth Committee. She has volunteered extensively at the fair, helped when her sister served on the Fair Board, and works with Clover Kids.
Rhonda’s daughter, Nesha Benton, earned a master’s in clinical mental health counseling and was an active 4-H member in the Clarion club, showing sheep at county and state levels and presenting static projects throughout her eligibility.
Rhonda’s advice to current and future 4-H members: The skills you learn in 4-H are useful for your entire life.
