Carl and Lois Kendall have dedicated decades of service, leadership, and support to the Monroe County 4-H program, leaving a lasting impact on generations of youth and families.
Carl’s 4-H journey began in Appanoose County, where he participated in a variety of projects. Although Lois was not a 4-H member herself, she grew up in Poweshiek County helping her brothers show cattle and quickly developed a deep appreciation for agriculture, family involvement, and supporting youth.
Carl and Lois purchased a small farm in Monroe County, and their family’s involvement in Monroe County 4-H began when their oldest daughter joined the program.
Lois served for many years as an Exhibit Building Superintendent, while Carl continues to proudly serve as Goat and Sheep Superintendent. As parents to Chris, Cyndi, and Carla, Carl and Lois encouraged their daughters to take advantage of every opportunity available through 4-H and other activities.
Their dedication to 4-H has also continued through future generations. Lois has spent countless hours helping their eight grandchildren complete static exhibits, while Carl has assisted with livestock care and project preparation. Today, they continue supporting and encouraging their six great-grandchildren in their own 4-H experiences.
Together, Carl and Lois created a remarkable legacy of leadership, service, generosity, and dedication that continues to positively influence Monroe County 4-H and the many youth and families they have inspired.
