Kim Head (Evans) has been actively involved with Lucas County 4-H for the past 47 years. She resides in Derby, Iowa, on a farm where she and her husband Doug raised their children Matt, Devin, Chelsea, Derek, and Baylee. She was an active member of the Derby Golden Stars 4-H, where she showed cattle, cow/calf, pigs, rabbits, and exhibited projects in the exhibit building. In 1985, she was a member of the team that won the State 4-H Livestock Judging contest, and they went on to compete at Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky. She also showed livestock at the Iowa State Fair and Ak-Sar-Ben. Kim was a club leader of the Derby Golden Stars prior to the club merging with the Derby Blue Ribbon Winners. She has been a member of the Lucas County Extension Council since 2019 and has held the position of president. Kim has always been a familiar face at the Lucas County Fair. She has instilled her love for 4-H and the fair in her children and now her grandchildren. She can often be found near the show ring or at the barns helping children get their livestock ready, wrangling grandchildren who aren’t old enough to show yet, helping get exhibit-building projects checked in, or continuing to help in the food stand as well as the Derby Blue Ribbon Winners ice cream and popcorn stand. Lucas County appreciates everything Kim has done to benefit our youth and future 4-H members.
