Mike and Evelyn Filson have two sons, Michael and his wife Courtney, and Adam and his wife Lisa, and two grandchildren, Keaton and Kinzey, all of whom have been involved with Jefferson County 4-H and the Jefferson County Fair.
Mike’s first interaction with Jefferson County 4-H was as a parent, but then grew into volunteering by serving on the 4-H Youth Committee. He then joined the Jefferson County Fair Board, where he has served for over 20 years in many roles. He serves as a liaison to the Jefferson County Extension Council, helping strengthen collaboration between the two groups. Mike is a familiar presence at livestock weigh-ins and works closely with Extension staff to ensure events and livestock shows run smoothly. Through his work on the Grounds Committee, he has contributed to improvements across the fairgrounds.
Evelyn’s involvement in Jefferson County 4-H began as a 4-H member, where she enjoyed showing sheep and other exhibits at the fair. The fair runs in Evelyn’s blood, as her dad and brother both served on the Fair Board. And now, wherever Mike is helping, Evelyn can be found also. She assists our 4-H program by attending weigh-ins to help with paperwork and prepares meals for exhibitors during fairgrounds clean-up. She assists during the fair by helping with the tractor entries at the fair parade and the Truck and Tractor Pull.
Mike and Evelyn take great pride in serving our 4-H program and fair. They enjoy the relationships they have made over the years with exhibitors’ families and Fair Board members and enjoy sharing volunteerism at the fair with their family.
