Jerry and Cindy (Dague) Schau have been dedicated supporters of the Jackson County 4-H program for many years through their leadership, volunteerism, and commitment to helping young people grow. Their passion for 4-H has been evident through serving as club leaders, volunteering at countless events, supporting county councils, and encouraging their three children to fully embrace the opportunities 4-H provides.

Growing up on family farms in eastern Iowa, both Jerry and Cindy developed a deep appreciation for agriculture and rural life. Jerry was able to participate in 4-H for a short time as a youth, while Cindy never had the opportunity to be a 4-H member. Those experiences made it especially meaningful for them to ensure their own children could enjoy everything 4-H has to offer. They later took over the Dague family farm, where they raised hogs, cattle, chickens, horses, crops, and a variety of other livestock.

Their children, Lucas, Jessica, and Dustin, were active in numerous project areas including beef cattle, swine, Share-the-Fun, clothing selection, County Council, and many indoor exhibits. Jessica was a member of the Emeline Country Club 4-H Club, while Lucas and Dustin belonged to the Emeline Ridge Rollers. Cindy served as a 4-H club leader for more than 10 years, while Jerry dedicated his time to both the Jackson County Youth Committee and Extension Council for over 12 years, helping strengthen the local 4-H program for future generations.

In recognition of their family's dedication to agriculture and youth development, the Schau family was honored as the Jackson County 4-H Family of the Year in 2003. Now retired, Jerry and Cindy enjoy gardening, volunteering, camping, playing games, helping neighbors, and spending time with their growing family.  And every summer, they eagerly anticipate another week at the Jackson County Fair.
