Derek Kruger is a lifelong supporter of 4‑H whose leadership, service, and dedication have made a lasting impact on youth in Grundy County. As a member of the Shiloh Jr. Stockman Club, Derek was actively involved in beef cattle projects and participated in non-livestock areas. His well-rounded involvement set the foundation for his continued service.

During his 4-H career, Derek developed strong leadership and communication skills that he continues to use daily. After graduating from Hawkeye Community College with a degree in Ag Business Management, he remained deeply connected to 4‑H, crediting the program with teaching him essential life skills. Today, Derek is a dedicated volunteer who gives back in many roles. He serves as a club leader for the Thunderstormz 4-H club, Beef Superintendent, Assistant Dairy Cattle Superintendent, and a youth committee member. In every role, his priority is helping youth. He has a passion for mentoring, especially in beef projects, where he teaches not only technical skills but also responsibility and perseverance.

Derek’s influence extends beyond the show ring. He supports the Grundy County Extension Office staff and is always willing to help wherever needed. His children have also been highly involved in 4‑H, reflecting his commitment to family and youth development.

Outside of 4‑H, Derek is known as the “Ultimate Dance Dad,” proudly supporting his daughters at competitions, even wearing a tutu at the County Fair Teen Dance. Derek Kruger’s lifelong dedication and positive impact make him truly deserving of the Iowa 4‑H Hall of Fame.
