Danny & Mary Whitehill have dedicated decades of service, leadership, and mentorship to youth, Extension, and the Fremont County community. Their involvement began in 1980 when Danny became the Horse Project Leader for his sons 4-H Club, the S.E.F.F. Danny quickly became a driving force in the county horse program, serving 23 years as Horse Superintendent and creating workshops to expand learning opportunities for youth.
After attending the National Youth Horse Symposium in 1987, Danny returned inspired to create a countywide 4-H horse camp. The camp rapidly grew to include both Fremont and Page counties, serving more than 600 youth between 1987 and 2000. The camp became a treasured tradition thanks to many volunteers, especially Danny’s wife, Mary Whitehill, who prepared meals for campers for more than a decade.
In 1996, Danny introduced the youth equestrian drill team now known as the Two County Dusters. The team first performed at the Sidney Rodeo in 1997 and continues today, creating lasting opportunities for youth leadership and teamwork.
Beyond the horse program, Danny served on the Fremont County Youth Committee, chaperoned the 1991 Citizenship Washington Focus trip, announced livestock shows, emceed Share the Fun, and supported countless county fair activities. Through humor, encouragement, and dedication, Danny and Mary helped generations of young people gain confidence, life skills, and lifelong friendships. Their belief that “the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a kid” continues to impact Fremont County youth today.
