Dawn Harder’s induction into the  4-H Hall of Fame honors a leader whose influence reshaped an entire club and strengthened a community. When Dawn assumed leadership of the Botna Valley Achievers, the club was small, mostly boys, and still finding its identity. Under her steady guidance, it grew into a vibrant, welcoming, and well-rounded 4-H family, full of youth developing skills and discovering leadership. Dawn continued serving as an organizational leader long after her own children aged out, a testament to her commitment.

Dawn helped youth understand that 4-H was more than livestock shows — it was community, leadership, and belonging. Her leadership style was rooted in example: everyone has value, everyone contributes, and everyone can grow. She instilled the belief that giving back is not an obligation but a privilege by making community service a defining piece of the club. Through her mentorship, youth learned to support one another, lend a helping hand, and truly “make the best better.”

The club’s service traditions grew from that foundation, including serving Thanksgiving meals, creating holiday decor, and performing a lighthearted fashion show for local nursing home residents and families.

These acts of service became memories, lessons, and a lasting legacy of kindness shaped by Dawn’s leadership. Her impact lives on in a generation of young people who found confidence, compassion, and community because she chose to lead with heart.
