Rick Follon led a lifetime of service to Clay County. He graduated from high school in Everly and resided in the community until his passing on August 1, 2026. Rick’s love and devotion to the cattle industry shaped not only his life, but the lives of countless others.
Rick could be found helping exhibitors haul their livestock, weighing in cattle at the beginning of projects, assisting with fair week weigh-ins, helping in the show ring, sponsoring awards, and purchasing animals at the annual Clay County sale. A cattleman through and through, he contributed countless dollars and hours to the project area.
Though his heart lay with beef cattle, this did not limit his support and volunteerism in other areas. Rick was a leader of the Lone Tree Booster 4-H Club and served on the Clay County 4-H Beef Committee for more than 35 years. He was also awarded the Long Time Beef Volunteer Award in 2017.
Watching his children and grandchildren in the show ring was one of his greatest joys. Rick was a constant help during their years of involvement and continued to offer mentorship, encouragement, and hands-on help to others in the years that followed.
Many things continue to change over time, but Rick’s dedication to Clay County 4-H was always a constant. His steadfast support and investment in Clay County youth will never be forgotten.
