Nate grew up on a farm outside Charles City, Iowa, where 4-H was part of his youth. He learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and community that 4-H teaches so well by exhibiting sheep, pigs, and horses at the county fair. Tami, on the other hand, grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Each year, she and her family would visit the Minnesota State Fair, where she was captivated by the 4-H exhibitors showing their livestock. She admired their bond with their animals and dreamed of being part of something that special.
When their own kids joined 4-H in 2013, that dream became reality. Nate and Tami then served as club leaders, Nate volunteered as a swine superintendent, and Tami as county council advisor. Together, they poured their time and energy into mentoring young people, helping them gain confidence, skills, and learn about the agricultural industry.
Beyond their official leadership roles, both have served as shining role models for youth in our community, mentors who inspire, encourage, and help young people discover their own passions and strengths. Their positivity and genuine care for others shine through in everything they do. Together, they truly embody the spirit of 4-H, using their head, heart, hands, and health to make our community a better place.
Their story is a true reminder that no matter where you come from, whether it’s a small farm or a big city, what really matters is your willingness to give back, mentor youth, and build our community. Their 12 years of leadership have made a lasting impact on our youth, our county, and our 4-H community.
