Wayne County proudly recognizes Dave Daughton as the 2025 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame inductee. Dave grew up near Kellerton, Iowa, and was a 10-year member of the Kellerton Hustlers 4-H Club, showing Simmental cattle alongside his brothers. His father, Bill, was a club leader and long-time fair board member, instilling a strong 4-H legacy.

After graduating from Mount Ayr High School, Dave earned a BA from Central College in 1983, where he also wrestled. He began his 36-year career at Wayne Community Schools that fall, teaching biology and coaching football and girls track. He later earned advanced degrees from Drake University and served as principal and superintendent until retiring in 2019.

Dave’s “retirement” is anything but quiet. He serves as Government Relations Director for the School Administrators of Iowa, Legislative Advocate for Rural School Advocates of Iowa, and runs Three D Solutions LLC, offering educational consulting and leadership mentoring. He also serves on several community boards and is Chair of the Wayne County Extension Council, where he’s known for his positivity and strong support of 4-H programming.

Fair week is sacred to Dave—he prioritizes helping with the cattle show and supporting youth on sale day. He finds joy in watching 4-H members grow through their hard work and dedication.

Dave and his wife Dixie have four children and 11 grandchildren. They enjoy outdoor activities, ball games, and concerts. His commitment to education, community, and youth development makes him a deserving Hall of Fame inductee.
