Mike and Shelly Wimer have been dedicated stewards of Ringgold County 4-H for over two decades. Their journey began when their children joined 4-H, and they quickly became leaders of the Junior Farmers 4-H Club, a role they held for eight years. Under their leadership, the club expanded its membership and undertook numerous community service projects, including improvements to the Ringgold County Fairgrounds—enhancing hog wash racks, painting fences, and creating a photo backdrop area for champions.

Even after their children aged out of 4-H, Mike and Shelly remained deeply involved. Mike joined the Ringgold County Fair Board, where he continues to serve, always with Shelly by his side. Together, they’ve visited other county fairs, built relationships across Iowa, and brought back ideas to improve their fairgrounds. They dedicate countless hours before and during the fair to ensure everything runs smoothly, tackling any task—big or small—and rallying others to help.

Their impact is felt far beyond logistics. Former 4-H members recall their encouragement and belief in hard work, teamwork, and dreaming big. One member shared, “They always told us we’d get out of it what we put into it—and they lived that every day.”

Mike and Shelly lead by example, inspiring youth and adults alike with their commitment, humility, and passion for 4-H. Their legacy is one of service, leadership, and a deep love for their community. Ringgold County 4-H is proud to recognize and thank the Wimers for their lasting contributions.
