“That could be a 4-H project.” Renny often shared this phrase with youth, inspiring them to turn their interests into learning opportunities. As a mother of five 4-Hers and a longtime club leader, her passion for 4-H ran deep.

Renny’s own 4-H journey began on a Harrison County farm as a member of the Persia Cloverettes and Persia Satellites. She held club offices, exhibited communication projects at the Iowa State Fair, served on local and area councils, and was named Harrison County Fair Queen. Her time in 4-H left her with lasting memories and lifelong friendships.

At the 1976 State 4-H Conference, Renny fell in love with Iowa State University. She pursued degrees in Public Service and Extension Education, staying active in student organizations and serving as Iowa Beef Princess—roles that reflected her strong communication and leadership skills shaped by 4-H.

While raising her family, Renny continued her 4-H legacy. She and her husband Dennis raised five children—Amanda, Jessica, Lucas, Rebecca, and Theresa—all proud 4-H alumni. After settling in Grinnell, Renny co-founded the Mighty Golden Clovers 4-H Club and served as leader for 20 years. She also worked as a County Youth Coordinator, launching programs like Shooting Sports, Robotics, and Junior Master Gardeners in Poweshiek County.

Reflecting on her journey, Renny shares: “Youth always astound me... it has been my blessing to know each one. Hopefully I was able to play a part in what they have grown to become.”
