Julie Clubb and Teresa Hanshaw have been pillars of the Jefferson County 4-H program for decades, with deep roots in the organization dating back to their childhood involvement in the Country Daisies and Walnut Ridge Workers 4-H Clubs, co-led by their parents Marilyn and Dennis Thomes. As youth, they were active in a wide range of project areas including rabbits, poultry, beef, sheep, visual arts, food & nutrition, woodworking, and home improvement, and served on the Teen County Council.
Their commitment to 4-H has continued across generations. For the past 16–17 years, Julie and Teresa have co-led the Walnut Ridge Workers and Lockridge Clover Kids, supporting their children and grandchildren in various project areas. They’ve also served as superintendents in the rabbit and poultry barn—affectionately known as “Denny’s Barn”—and have been certified to conduct poultry pullorum testing for county and state fairs.
Julie and Teresa are known for their hands-on support, helping improve barn infrastructure and mentoring youth who may lack other support systems. Their passion for 4-H is rooted in family tradition and community service, with Julie also contributing as a Girl Scout leader and school concessions volunteer.
Their advice to 4-H’ers is simple yet powerful: “Anything is possible—you must put in the hard work, be proud of stepping outside your comfort zone, and keep growing.” Through their dedication and leadership, Julie and Teresa continue to honor their father’s legacy and make a lasting impact on Jefferson County youth.
