Theresa Rose – Lifelong Advocate for the Henry County Fair and 4-H

Theresa Rose has been a steadfast supporter of the Henry County Fair, Iowa State University Extension, and the 4-H program for decades. Her journey began in 1982 when she joined KILJ as a daytime deejay, quickly becoming a familiar voice across Southeast Iowa. Over the course of 18 years at the station, Theresa worked in nearly every aspect of radio operations, earning a reputation for her warm, engaging interviews—especially with young 4-H members during the Henry County Fair. Her ability to spotlight youth achievements helped shine a light on the impact of 4-H in the area.

Beyond the airwaves, Theresa has been deeply involved in nearly every facet of the fair. From co-coordinating the Fair Queen Contest, organizing the State Fair exhibit display area, and volunteering with open class exhibits, her energy and enthusiasm have touched every corner of the event. Her reporting has extended to covering both the Henry and Lee County Fairs, where she’s gotten to know countless families and watched 4-H’ers grow—from showing their first bucket calf to serving on the Teen Council.

Though never a 4-H member herself, Theresa has become one of its strongest champions. Her belief in the life skills, confidence, and community connection it fosters has only deepened through the years. Her collaboration with the Extension Office and ongoing service as a member of the Henry County Extension Council reflect her dedication. Theresa Rose continues to be a true cornerstone of the community and a shining example of lifelong service to youth and agriculture through 4-H and Extension. Theresa is the proud mother of three grown children and grandmother to two, making her commitment to youth development even more personal. She is truly a pillar of the community.
