Jerry and Carol Tlach have been dedicated supporters of 4-H for over three decades, embodying the values of leadership, service, and lifelong learning.
Jerry’s involvement began in his youth as a proud member of his local club, where he exhibited cattle at the Hancock County Fair. He later helped his younger sisters with their livestock projects and served as a leader of the Britt Broncos 4-H Club for about 10 years. His leadership encouraged members to try new project areas and build confidence. Jerry also served four years on the Hancock County Extension Council and continued his advocacy for 4-H as a Hancock County Supervisor.
Carol, though not a 4-H’er growing up, fully embraced the program after marrying Jerry. She became actively involved as a 4-H parent and leader while their children participated at both the county and state levels. For over five years, she co-led the Britt Broncos, encouraging youth to explore communication projects like educational presentations and working exhibits. Carol also served three years on the Hancock County Fair Board and continues to volunteer as a hostess in the SMA Building during the fair.
Together, they raised four children who were deeply involved in 4-H, excelling in leadership and projects such as baking, sewing, woodworking, and livestock. Their favorite vacation became camping as a family at the Iowa State Fair.
Today, they continue their 4-H legacy by supporting their grandchildren—Carol mentors in sewing and baking, while Jerry helps with livestock projects.
Jerry and Carol Tlach are true champions of 4-H, whose dedication continues to shape the lives of youth in Hancock County and beyond.
