David and Sue Burrack are Fayette County’s 2025 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame honorees. Lifelong residents of Fayette County, they are the third generation to live on their family’s Century Farm. David holds an AA degree in Animal Science from Hawkeye Community College and has farmed and fed beef cattle throughout his life. Together, they’ve owned and managed Northeast Iowa Auction Company for over 40 years. Sue earned her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Iowa State University and has served as both a teacher and administrator in K–12 and higher education.

Both were active in 4-H as youth and strongly believe in the program’s role in developing life skills. David and Sue served as leaders of the Fairfield Indians and Arlington Ignitors 4-H Clubs for over 25 years—David as the official leader, Sue as the behind-the-scenes organizer and snack provider. They fondly remember club tour days and were especially proud of winning the herdsmanship award multiple times.

David also served as livestock judging coach for three years and was a Fayette County Fairboard director for six years, including one year as fair manager. For more than 40 years, the couple has played key roles in the 4-H Livestock and Achievement Auctions—David as auctioneer and Sue as clerk.

Sue has judged communications and home improvement at many county fairs. Their son Cole was a 4-H member and is now a veterinarian. He and his wife, Kara, are active in Extension and 4-H in Jones County, where their sons, Axel and Callym, are Clover Kids.

David and Sue are now transitioning their farm to a beginning farmer and former 4-H member. They believe 4-H is about lifelong skills, friendships, and joyful memories—especially the laughter of kids playing cards or letting down string “spiders” in the barn aisles.
