Susan Willie’s 4-H journey began in 1959 as a member of the Prairie Jolly Girls 4-H Club in Delaware County. During her youth, she enjoyed exhibiting horses, swine, food and nutrition, and sewing projects at the county fair. After graduating in 1968, she became an assistant leader of her club, serving until 1972.
Susan and her husband Ken raised four children who were active 4-H members—David in the Prairie Livestock Club and daughters Kathy, Sarah, and Kristal in the Prairie Clovers. As a dedicated 4-H parent, Susan served as co-leader of the Prairie Clovers from 1989 to 2004. She took pride in mentoring youth as they planned and completed their projects, believing strongly that 4-H builds tomorrow’s leaders. Today, she celebrates her children’s continued involvement as Fairboard members, club leaders, and community volunteers. Of her 14 grandchildren, seven have participated in 4-H.
Susan’s passion for agriculture and youth development extended beyond club leadership. In the early 2000s, she joined the Delaware County 4-H/FFA Sheep Committee, where she remains active in weigh-ins and show events. She also provided animals and volunteered with the "Farmer For A Day" exhibit at the county fair, helping educate youth and adults about livestock.
In 2011, Susan joined the Delaware County Extension Council, where she has served as Secretary, Treasurer, and Marketing Committee member. She continues to serve with pride and commitment.
Now retired, Susan and Ken enjoy gardening and supporting their family’s activities. She is honored to receive this recognition and has always aimed to lead by example through her years of service and dedication to 4-H.
