This year’s Cass County Hall of Fame honoree is Jacque Wickey, a lifelong supporter and friend of the 4-H program. Her involvement spans decades and includes roles as a 4-H member, Youth Council and Youth Action Committee member, Fair Superintendent, and State Fair chaperone.
Jacque was active in 4-H from 1964 to 1972, participating in the Massena Champions, Massena Merry Maids, and Massena Merry Maids/Victoria Volunteers. Determined to show livestock, she even joined the “boys'” club to exhibit cattle and horses. Some of her favorite memories include competing at the State Fair and AKSARBEN, especially preparing calves for show—where her skill in grooming steer tails hinted at her future career. Today, she’s a licensed cosmetologist with 50 years of experience, and she proudly traces the start of that journey back to the fairgrounds.
Throughout her 4-H years, Jacque held every club office, served as a junior leader and junior superintendent, and attended numerous state events and camps. After high school, she remained involved, volunteering as a dormitory chaperone at the State Fair and staying active with the Cass County 4-H community. In the early 2000s, she returned as secretary of the Youth Action Committee and has since mentored younger generations, teaching her great-nieces to sew and cheering them on at the fair.
As her niece Tonya Inman shared, “Jacque is always up for an adventure, fiercely loves her family and friends, and is a friend to everyone. She’s an amazing aunt, community volunteer, and mentor to many.” Congratulations to Jacque Wickey on this well-deserved recognition!
