Diane and Alan Ralston have volunteered actively in the Woodbury County 4-H program for over twenty-five years. They first became assistants in the Arlington Future Farmers 4-H Club, to which their son belonged. They have been chaperones for the State Youth Conference and 4-H Round-Up, assisted with various projects in the 4-H building, and are heavily involved in the county fair. Currently, they volunteer as 4-H building superintendents.
Alan has been the sheep, goat, and science, engineering, and technology superintendent and helps with the static exhibits. He is currently the home improvement 4-H superintendent. He is a member of the 4-H and Fair Committee and always thinks of ways to make things run smoothly and better. You will find Alan bidding for his favorite berry pies during the 4-H pie auctions (or maybe even helping the pie judge by sampling the pies before the auction). Alan is the current chair of the Woodbury County Extension Council. He is finishing a 9-year term with the Iowa Extension Council Association Board. He has enjoyed being on this board and learning from other counties. Alan is retired from Cargill in Sioux City.
Diane is more behind the scenes, volunteering and asking if anything needs to be done. Her help is much appreciated during the busy months of preparation for the county fair. She helps prepare the judging boxes for the superintendents for the static building judging for ten 4-H departments, creates classes for the consumer judging contest, and has helped interview 4-H members for the 4-H County Council. Diane is currently the life skills 4-H superintendent. She is a retired Holy Cross-Blessed Sacrament School teacher who knows and understands young people. Diane and Alan live outside of Moville, Iowa, and are parents to two sons: Jake, who is deceased, and Alex and his wife Azaria. They have one grandson, Archie.
