Marlys Cooper is best known as a judge for communications contests for over forty years, a judge for photography and personal development exhibits at county and state fairs, and for her reviews of applicants for state 4-H scholarships. As the Ames Mighty Muskrat Club leader for twenty-one years, Marlys leads club members to outstanding project learning and exhibits, encourages leadership roles, and emphasizes personal and club service.

Marlys Cooper’s contributions to Story County 4-H are remarkable as she offered creative and positive thinking. She was a volunteer leader chaperone on the Citizenship Washington Focus trip and served many years as superintendent at the county fair. She was a Story County 4-H Foundation charter member and served on several extension nominating committees, the Youth Development and Inspiration Program Committees. Currently, Marlys is a member of the Story County 4-H History Committee.

Marlys Cooper was active in the American Business Women’s Association, serving as the Story County Chapter president. She served on the volunteer board for United Way and was active in Love Your Neighbor community outreach through St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ames.

From her beginnings as an outstanding nine-year member and officer in the Colfax Cloverettes in Boone County to her energetic contributions as a volunteer club leader and county and state advocate for 4-H and Extension, Marlys Cooper’s positive involvement qualifies her to be initiated into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.
