Glenn and Ginger Sterk both have been past members of Poweshiek County 4-H clubs. Glenn has the longest record of years as a 4-H member as he joined the Jackson South Pows in 1955. In 1958, Glenn joined the Union Champs Club as the Jackson Club was getting too big. Glenn’s father, Cornie Sterk, was his club leader.
During all his 4-H years, Glenn showed cattle at the county and state fairs. His favorite breed to show was Shorthorns. Glenn and Ginger were married on February 24, 1968. They had a son, Dr. Kevin Sterk, who was their pride and joy but unfortunately passed away unexpectedly.
Glenn has attended the Iowa State Fair every year he can remember except during the COVID-19 pandemic. The same can be said for attending the Poweshiek County Fair. The couple enjoys watching youth present their projects and experiencing their successes.
Glenn and Ginger enjoy collecting items and memorabilia when not attending a fair. Glenn has a valuable farm toy collection, and Ginger enjoys photography. They love to share their collections. Glenn's collection reflects his love of agriculture and his years working for DeKalb, now Bayer. They also keep busy visiting their various farms in Poweshiek County and have some beef cows trying to raise show calves. They were even a part of the Antique Road Show at the Living History Farms in mid-June.
The Sterk’s have graciously supported 4-H youth and programs with strong support for the Poweshiek County youth, allowing youth to achieve their goals and contribute to their communities.
