Leland Hathaway started 4-H in eighth grade. His father was a 4-H leader. Leland and his wife Karen have one daughter Kaylee, who is married with two children.
Leland was an avid 4-H member in Monona County when he was younger. Leland graduated from West Monona School and went to work on the family farm where he lives, owns, and farms the land and has a cow herd.
Leland loves woodworking, restoring engines, and home repairs, all self-taught, learning by doing as taught in 4-H. Leland has helped at many 4-H workshops and helps 4-H members with livestock projects and volunteering whenever help is needed. He was an assistant leader of the Bobcats 4-H Club before taking over as a leader with his wife, Karen, from 2018 until 2022. In 2022, Leland and Karen were given the 4-H Leader of the Year award.
Leland has been on the Monona County Agricultural Extension Council since 2015 and has been chairman of this group since 2016. He has been on the 4-H Youth Committee, representing the Extension Council since 2016. Leland is involved with the Masonic Lodge and always volunteers and helps 4-H members with livestock projects. He is an excellent asset to the community and the 4-H program in Monona County.
