Serving 4-H and others came naturally to Robyn Metzger; her impact on the Lyon County 4-H program has left an indelible mark. Growing up, she was active in 4-H and passionate about the livestock and beef project. She was involved with the livestock quiz bowl, judging teams, and showing her heifers and steers, frequently making it to the Minnesota State Fair 4-H auction. Through 4-H, she made lifelong friends and mentors, which impacted her life.

Robyn wasn’t afraid to take on big volunteering tasks. She was instrumental in starting the Lyon County Open Beef Show and helped with the 4-H herdsmanship program at the Lyon County Fair. Robyn also served as the 4-H beef superintendent for many years, and she and her family usually hosted the beef weigh-in in February. If you drive in the yard at the Metzger’s farm in the summer, finding other Lyon County 4-H members around wouldn't be unusual. Robyn enjoyed mentoring 4-H members with their beef projects and opening their farm to them to come and work on their projects daily. She was a mentor to many young 4-H youth and a phone call away to new families who wanted guidance.

Robyn was also a member of the Lester Rescue, serving as an EMT and volunteering with the Lyon County Cattlemen’s Association. Robyn’s husband, Aaron, and their four children, Colt, Zane, Blaze, and Mesa, share the same passion for 4-H. Her children are active in the beef project and many other project areas at the fair.

Robyn’s eagerness to serve was contagious. She made the most of every situation, laughing and smiling through even the hardest work. She led by example with a positive attitude and lived to serve others. Robyn passed away in June 2023, leaving a legacy of hard work, passion to serve, and a positive attitude that she passed on to others.
