From early morning until late into the night, Louisa County Fair Board member Steve Martin can be counted on to say “yes” to whatever is needed. Keys for the Variety Theater to set up the dog show? He can find them. Extra gates for swine weigh-in? No problem! Cleaning up after a spill—any kind of spill? He always says yes.
Steve has lived in Louisa County all his life, outside of a few years when he attended Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in agronomy. Since 1969, he has farmed near Columbus Junction. He has also been known to be very handy as a carpenter and has worked for Farm Service, the FSA office, and Dollar General.
During the county fair, Steve puts 4-H members and their families first and does whatever it takes to help them be successful. Even at 80-years-old, you can find him at the fairgrounds mowing and managing the trash daily. He is the best popcorn maker at the races and never misses an opportunity to lend a helping hand. He is proud of each and every youth that comes through the gates of the Louisa County Fair and the youth know it. Louisa County is very fortunate to have Steve Martin on their team and appreciates his commitment to the 4-H program.
