Leanne Hammer was born and raised in Ida County, where she was a nine-year Logan Stars 4-H club member, the club her grandmother, Anna Johnson, started in 1939. Her siblings and cousins were fellow 4-H members; her grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles were all 4-H leaders. During her 4-H years, Leanne enjoyed attending 4-H camp, the Leadership Conference in Madrid, and the State Conference in Ames. She showed cattle locally and at the state fair, Aksarben, and Denver National Western Livestock Show. She also completed numerous other static exhibit projects in various project areas.
Later when she became a mom, Leanne carried on the family tradition as a 4-H leader. She led the Battle Badgers Club from 1997-2004. She took immense pride in watching 4-H members excel in their projects and learn life skills. One of her favorite memories was taking several members to Legislative Day at the State Capitol and touring Meredith Corporation. Leanne took leadership training and became involved in record book evaluations, state awards evaluations, and interviews. She also took the 4-H judges training and went on to judge other county fairs and achievement shows.
Leanne was awarded Leader of the Year in 2001 and 4-H Alumni of the Year in 2002. She served on the Ida County Extension for several years and is a charter member of the Ida County 4-H Foundation, serving as treasurer for 20 years. With the Foundation, she continues supporting Ida County youth through special projects, financial assistance for camps, conferences, and scholarships. She now enjoys helping her grandchildren, who also reside in Ida County, learn and grow in all that 4-H has to offer.
