An Emmetsburg native, Paul Quam spent all of his school years as an Emmet County 4-H member, where he held several officer positions and was also successfully involved in livestock judging.
As an adult, Paul became more involved through his commitment to the sheep project and as a Greene County Fair Board member. Paul was on the Fair Board for over 30 years. During this tenure, he was one of twelve directors of the State Association of Iowa Fairs and the president and treasurer of the Greene County Fair Board. Not only was he involved, he was passionate and supported the sheep industry on both a local and state level. He was instrumental in establishing the Iowa Lamb Producers food stand at the Iowa State Fair; he was the chartering treasurer for the Iowa Sheep Industry Association; and served on the task force with Governor Branstad on promoting livestock enterprises in Iowa.
Paul is an active community member and a parent to three children, Andrea, Nate, and Karla, all involved in 4-H. He spent time coaching the livestock judging team, which advanced to Louisville and competed at the National Contest. He supported his children, who exhibited sheep and cattle at local and state levels; Karla even had the Grand Champion Hampshire Lamb at the Iowa State Fair.
Paul was always a strong supporter of 4-H as a parent, member, and community member. Today, Paul and his wife Sandy are now retired. Paul spent his professional career in agricultural finance for over 50 years. They still keep busy with their farm, community, and, of course, their four grandchildren. Greene County proudly honors Paul Quam as the 2024 Hall of Fame recipient.
