Alan and Kathy Weiss have been dedicated and committed volunteers for the Crawford County 4-H Program for several years, impacting countless youth and leaving an indelible mark.
Kathy grew up in Battle Creek, where she was a part of the local 4-H club and enjoyed showing horses. Kathy served as a 4-H leader for the Schleswig Sharks for eleven years, from 2007 to 2018. When Kathy was a 4-H leader, she always emphasized that 4-H isn’t just about animals but allows youth to show their creativity through various projects. With her help and encouragement, her members were open to trying new things like cooking, sewing, photography, and welding. She also organized and led the Clover Kids program in Schleswig for seven years. Kathy is a current member of the Kiwanis Club in Ida Grove. She has also served as a Sunday school teacher for the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and helped with the Vacation Bible School program.
Alan was the Extension Council chair for eight years and served for a total of twelve years. Alan grew up in Charter Oak, where he participated in the 4-H club and showed pigs and sheep. He offered the United Bank of Iowa’s basement to the Schleswig 4-H club so they would have a place to meet. He volunteers to play Santa at multiple events throughout the holiday season. Alan was on the school board at Schleswig Community School District for eight years. He is an active member of the Schleswig Community Club. Alan has served as an elder, bible class teacher, and on the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig church board. Over the years, he has volunteered to help at many events, club functions, and other community activities.
