Lori Henrichs has been involved in 4-H since she was young. Her parents, Jan and Bill Short, played a significant role in getting her involved. Bill worked within 4-H in the Iowa State Extension Office for over 30 years. Lori continued in her parents’ footsteps. She remembers some of her favorite memories of attending the Iowa State Fair and helping her dad in the sheep barn. When Lori’s boys were old enough, she got them involved in 4-H, too.
Around 2002, Lori became a Clarke County K.W. Hustlers 4-H Club co-leader. She enjoyed helping with crafts, doing community service projects, helping youth at many bake sales, assisting with a hog raffle every year to raise money for the new fairgrounds, planting flowers at the fairgrounds, decorating windows for 4-H week, and anything else that she could help out with.
Lori has also helped out in the static exhibit building for many years. After the judging was completed, Lori could be found helping sort and organize static projects, ensuring they were proudly displayed. Lori stayed a club leader a few years after her sons graduated. She not only helped her boys with their animals, but she also made sure they learned how to make clothes, bake, and cook. She also helped with a play that the club took to the Iowa State Fair. Lori was always seen taking pictures around the fair at all the shows if she had any extra time.
4-H was and still is something that Lori is passionate about. She has made a notable impact on the 4-H community, which Clarke County will forever be thankful for.
