Don and Lisa Westering of Manson have been a vital part of the Calhoun County 4-H program for many years. Lisa has served as a club leader for the Manson Craters 4-H Club for fifteen years and Don served alongside Lisa as a leader for nine years. Don and Lisa have two daughters that were part of the Calhoun County 4-H program and the Manson Craters 4-H Club. Together, they have impacted the lives of many youth in Calhoun County.
Over the years Don and Lisa would take leadership in areas they excelled in; for example, the Westering family has a wealth of knowledge regarding rabbits so Don and Lisa put together a rabbit tattoo workshop to help members get their animals properly identified for the Calhoun County Expo while teaching them the skill of tattooing the animals. Don and Lisa always encouraged their club members to participate in events at the Calhoun County Expo, trips, and activities letting the kids know the skills they could gain and benefit from going forward after attending these events. The Manson Craters had many fundraisers and community service projects to help club members give back to the community as well as having funds available for club outings and to help support members attending local, state, and club events.
Don also served a four-year term on the Calhoun County Extension Council. During his time on council he was an instrumental part of the building renovations and office move to the current location.
Calhoun County appreciates everything Don and Lisa have done and thank them for their hard work and support to the Iowa 4-H program and specifically to the youth in Calhoun County.
