Sharon Chesnut joined 4-H as a fourth grader in 1976. She was a member of the Draper Trail Blazers in Jasper County, where she served on the officer team and showed sheep at the county fair. She also won awards for record keeping.
Valuing the many characteristics and skills 4-H members possess, she volunteered as an assistant to the 4-H club leader when her oldest son joined 4-H. Sharon spent the next 13 years helping the club plan social events, complete record books, organize community service projects, and proofread fair write-ups.
Sharon served as a member of the Butler County 4-H Youth Committee while her children were in 4-H and continued serving after graduating high school. She served as both vice president and president on the committee. While on the committee, she volunteered to prepare and manage the 4-H Feed Shed during the county fair.
Sharon is instrumental in advocating for 4-H members' involvement in various opportunities beyond the local club. She has chaperoned the 4-H Youth Conference, provided input on fair book policies, assisted with static project day at the fair, and has been a strong supporter of record keeping.
She currently announces all the livestock shows during the Butler County Fair. She judges numerous project areas at county fairs and judges home improvement at the State Fair. Sharon’s talents, support, and dedication have significantly impacted Butler County.
