Amanda Hall Honnold has been an integral part of 4-H for many years. Her name, and that of her mother, Clair Hall, and her three siblings is synonymous with the 4-H horse program in Story County. Amanda continues to be an active participant in both county and state 4-H horse judging and other events.
As a youth, Amanda was a member of the Richland Royals Club for nine years, carrying child development, food and nutrition, chickens, and dog projects as well as horses. She held various club offices and served on county and state 4-H Councils. She participated in the Citizenship Washington Focus trip to Washington DC and competed on the horse judging team at the national level.
Currently, Amanda is on the Story County Fair Board where she serves as liaison for the horse projects, and helps with the petting zoo and pony riders. Her love for horses and her passion for teaching 4-Hers about horses has built lasting bonds with both the youth and their parents. She has leased horses to youth in order that they could participate in the 4-H horse project. Amanda also serves on the State Horse Advisory Committee which helps with the State Fair Horse Show.
Coaching the horse judging contests has created opportunities for 4-Hers to participate at the state and national levels. Both junior and senior team members learned to set and achieve goals and gained confidence in communicating. Emily Cummins, past member of Amanda’s club, now volunteers as a coach for the horse judging contest. Emily indicated that Amanda “was a huge influence on my professional development, building confidence while having fun with horses.”
Amanda Honnold works as a school psychologist, serving special needs children in the Eldora and Radcliffe school districts and lives near Nevada with her husband Brent and several special horses!
