Jeff and Julie Shelton have been long time supporters of the 4-H and extension programs in Harrison County. Jeff grew up showing cattle and hogs at the Harrison County fair as a member of the Allen Clover Leaf 4-H club. Their two daughters, Paige and Blaire, followed his footsteps in the show ring and excelled in other areas of 4-H. Blaire was crowned County Fair Queen in 2011.
Jeff joined the Harrison County Extension Council in 1987. He remained on council until 1991 when the structured changed from township representatives to nine countywide elected officials. Julie joined the Extension Council in 1999 and served until 2010. During her tenure, she served as secretary.
The desire to serve their community and help youth benefit from 4-H did not end after their completed council terms. They both joined the Harrison County Fair Board where they helped with the King and Queen contest, talent show, and Little Miss Harrison. Today, they still serve as the swine superintendents. They are always willing to do whatever is necessary from washing the barn to lining up sponsors to help offset the costs of raising livestock. In addition to serving as Extension Council and Fair Board members, Jeff and Julie were both very active in the county’s Pork Producers group.
Together, they are dedicated volunteers who put in countless hours of volunteering for the benefit of the 4-H program and the youth in their community. They truly believe that 4-H has the power to positively impact young peoples’ lives. 4-H teaches the lessons of hard work, sacrifice, joy, and self-fulfillment.
Jeff and Julie care deeply about the values that raising livestock instill in youth and want everyone to have the chance to get in the showring. You can find Jeff and Julie around the state watching swine shows during the summer and especially at the state fair! Thank you to you both for everything you have contributed to this program!
