As this year’s Buena Vista County's 4-H Hall of Fame nominees, Mike and Michelle Ehlers are very well deserved of this recognition.
Serving in the 4-H community for nearly a decade, Michelle has been a role model and supporter of the 4-H kids within Buena Vista County. Michelle has been a leader for the Fairfield Pioneers 4-H Club for 9 years. She is always willing to set up a workshop, have kids at her house to practice for a pie baking contest or learn how to sew, pull a trailer with wood chips to the fair, help her 4-H kids in the Fairfield Pioneers club by learning how to fill a goal card, and so much more.
On top of managing their own hog confinement barns, Mike and Michelle annually help organize the Special Swine program at the Buena Vista County Fair. They wake up before the sun to pick up the pigs, sort them, and deliver them. Their hard work gives more 4-Hers the opportunity to show pigs at the fair, creating lifelong memories. Mike and Michelle have done a wonderful job with our Special Swine program at the fair and that makes kids want to sign up for this experience. This year, 23 Buena Vista County 4-Hers will be given the opportunity to show swine at the fair due to Mike and Michelle’s support and commitment to our Special Swine program.
Mike and Michelle reside on a farm outside of Marathon. Their son Clayton attends college at Dordt University. Their daughter Allison attends Sioux Central High School.
We are so grateful for their contribution and leadership to the 4-H program throughout the years and are excited to honor Mike and Michelle with the Hall of Fame nomination!
