As a 4-H member, Carl’s primary project area focused on market beef and junior feeder pens. In high school, he took on the role of club treasurer as well as club historian. Later, Carl became the leader for the Jackson Gems, where he remained in that role for several years. After his time as a leader, he began volunteering for the Washington Workers, now known as the Washington Stars, in which his wife, Kris, was an assistant leader. Both of his boys, Greg and Tyler, were actively involved in 4-H with the guidance of their parents.
In 1987, Carl joined the County Fair Beef Committee, where he continues to serve as Superintendent. He is also one of the Meat Goat Assistant Superintendents. In both roles he is a leader in the tagging and weigh-in process. Over the years, Carl served four years as a member of the Adair County Youth Action Committee, as well as 17 years as an Adair County Fair Board Member.
When Carl is not busy with 4-H, he can be found volunteering his time as a Bridgewater Volunteer Firefighter, working the ring at the Winterset Sale Barn, tending to his own livestock and spending time with his family.
Carl, thank you for being a leader for the community, and a reason that Adair County 4-H keeps running strong.
