Duane Ver Ploeg4-H has been a part of Duane’s life for many years. First at the age of 10 as a member of the Lake Prairie 4-H club. Then as the founding leader of the Triple R 4-H club of which he was a leader for 24 years. During that time, he became a swine superintendent, which he is still doing today. He has helped with many events in Marion County throughout the years.

A few of the things Duane enjoys most about being a 4-H volunteer are helping the kids with livestock projects and encouraging them to learn about caring for livestock. He enjoys getting to know the  4-H’ers and helping them show their animals in the ring. Duane loves to watch a young 4-H member grow in confidence and knowledge and learning lifelong values. And above all have fun.

Nothing is more heart-warming than to have someone who is now an adult come up and say, “Hi, I remember you from the fair when I was in 4-H” and then the conversation begins. Marion County 4-H and Extension is grateful for all of the time and knowledge Duane has given to the youth throughout the years and look forward to many more years with Duane as a volunteer.
