Henry ZuidemaHenry Zuidema, of rural Sully Iowa, has been involved in the Jasper County 4-H Program for many years in one capacity or another.

Henry was one of the first founding members of the Killduff Hotshots 4-H Club in 1947 and remained an active 4-H member throughout his youth.

In the 1960’s and 70’s he served as a 4-H Leader of the Killduff Hotshots when he and his late wife, Betty’s children, Steve, Rod, and Carna were old enough to join 4-H. He remained very active with 4-H, as his grandchildren were members and now great-grandchildren are members of the Jasper County and Poweshiek County 4-H Programs.

Not only was Henry an active 4-H member and 4-H club leader, but in the 1970’s he also joined the Jasper County Fair Board and served as a fair board member for approximately ten years. During this time, he helped to implement many improvements to the Jasper County Fairgrounds and helped to run the horseshoe pitching contest.

Each year, Henry continues to attend the Jasper County Fair in support of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends, as he takes in some livestock shows and patrons the concession stands on the grounds.

Jasper County is very appreciative and fortunate for all of Henry’s contributions to the Jasper County 4-H Program.
