Greg was in 4-H and showed beef cattle for six years. His favorite memories are all the great times had at the fair and hanging out with 4-H’ers from his club, the Livermore Bulldogs and getting to know members from other clubs. He gained a great appreciation for all the people who have invested so much time for the 4-H community. Jill never had the opportunity to be in 4-H. She grew up in California and moved here when she got married.
Jill was a leader for quite a few years while her daughters were in 4-H. She was the leader for the Livermore Livewires and then eventually the Livermore Bulldogs for 25 years. Jill’s favorite memory from being a leader was watching members have the opportunity to learn social skills and life lessons while making friendships and memories that truly enriched lives. She absolutely loved decorating the fair booth and the Christmas tree for the church Christmas tree walk. She has a gift of creating something out of nothing and decorating has always been a passion of hers. She was able to think of creative projects and ideas and involve many in the production of those ideas.
Jill volunteered throughout the years with different school events. She helped her daughter tremendously with collecting pop tabs for the local Ronald McDonald house in Des Moines. They started small and made a lasting impression that continues today. Daughters Jenna and Kaley were both heavily involved in 4-H and community service projects.
4-H was a large part of Lempke family as it was an outlet creatively and a way to bring the community together. The Lempke’s taught a large beef showing group so many lessons when it came to chores, time management and balance. Their daughters indicated the following, “Our parents have helped in many arenas, and we will never be able to repay all the work and love that they put into making our memories and time in 4-H so special.” The Lempke’s are so incredibly honored to be even considered for this honor, but also feel there are so many people more deserving of this. 4-H will always be a special chapter in their lives.
