Luanne has been active in the Clinton County 4-H program and the county fair since she was 10 years old. Luanne grew up with a strong encouragement to be active in the 4-H program. As a member of the Dewitt Dutiful Daughters, (DDD) and the Mohawk 4-H clubs, she carried projects in food & nutrition, sewing, home improvement and beef.
In the 1970s and 1980’s she served as a leader of the DeWitt Dutiful Daughters and the In-between 4-H clubs for five years, she enjoyed helping the youth with their projects and record books. She was also Superintendent of the Home Economics department for the fair projects for six years. In the 1990s and 2000’s she served as the Dairy Superintendent for five years and she was an active member of the County Youth Committee for five years. She is currently serving as an Associate on the Clinton County Fair Board. Luanne has worked in the fair headquarters for many years.
Luanne‘s ambition to be a volunteer extends to the state level also, she has served as the Dairy Clerk at the State Fair where she helped with check-in and the recording of show results for the 4-H show. She served as secretary of the Brown Swiss Breeding Association, and she has been the secretary of the Iowa Purebred Dairy Cattle Counsel.
Luanne loves the fair and she also helps with the judging process for many 4-H projects at many county fairs and local achievement shows. She judges projects in the Visual Arts, Home Improvement, and Communication project areas.
Luanne has been married to her husband Lee for 60 years. Upon taking the marriage vows, she became a very active partner in the Brown Swiss milking operation, milking 90 cows twice a day and taking care of the baby calves. Luanne and Lee have three children, 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. All of their children and most of their grandchildren were or are members of 4-H.
4-H has played a huge role in her family’s lives and has helped to create many memories for them. Luanne has been a strong advocate for the 4-H program. She believes that the program teaches life skills, ethics, and values that will help members to live productive lives in this changing world.
