Tom Jr. and Kristy Demry of Centerville have been involved in Appanoose County 4-H for the majority of their lives.
For many years, Tom and Kristy have played a major role in the Appanoose County Fair’s Annual Exhibitor Livestock Auction along with helping with the Annual Pie & Cake Auction. Over the years, Tom has volunteered his time as an auctioneer and ring help for the Livestock Auction, along with serving on the Appanoose County Fair Board as swine superintendent. Since Tom’s mother, Janet Demry (2010 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Inductee), retired from her volunteer position as a sales clerk, Kristy assumed the position alongside her husband.
While serving as volunteers for Appanoose County 4-H and the Fair, Tom and Kristy always work to ensure that the youth are heavily supported in their endeavors. During this time, they have helped raise thousands of dollars for the youth in the program. Not only have they volunteered their time, but they have also been a continuous community supporter through their generational family business, Demry Auction LLC., by donating trophies each year in a variety of species.
Through their involvement in 4-H, Tom and Kristy have instilled their love for 4-H and the county and state fair into their family; Jessica Ott (Dalton Ott) and grandson Willis. Each year the Demry family carries on their tradition of camping at the Iowa State Fair. The Iowa State Fair holds very dearly to their hearts, very much so that their daughter chose to host her wedding reception at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
Appanoose County greatly appreciates Tom, Jr. and Kristy Demry’s dedication to 4-H, and looks forward to continuing working with them for many years!
