Janice (Jan) FaintJanice (Jan) Faint began her 4-H journey in 1951 by joining a Pocahontas County 4-H club. After a few years, her family moved to Blairsburg where she became a Blairsburg Happy Hustlers Girls Club member. Jan enjoyed gardening and home grounds project areas. Her mother encouraged this project area so she always had someone to help weed her garden. Jan also enjoyed showing Angus Cattle, sheep, and swine in 4-H. She was not allowed to join the boy’s livestock club, so they created their own! She was a member of the Fremont Farmerettes Girl’s Livestock Club for five years.

Jan continued to be involved in the livestock publication business for over twenty years.

She was head of Advertising sales for Drover’s Journal in Omaha and Kansas City. She also worked for the Western Livestock Journal in Denver and helped start the American Breeds Journal in Oklahoma City. Jan also was secretary of the Iowa Angus Association for 11 years and a chair for the Angus Junior National Show.

Upon returning to hometown of Webster City, Jan has also been very active on the Hamilton County Cattlemen Board where she has just stepped down from serving as Secretary for over 20 years. Jan helped organize the Cattlemen Chuck Wagon meals at the fair and gave multiple 4-H members the opportunity to raise money for 4-H trips and awards.  On the board, she initiated and chaired the Iowa Junior Beef Breeds sanctioned show for over 20 years – working with multiple 4-H members.

Jan also serves on the Hamilton County 4-H Foundation Board. Jan’s favorite 4-H memory is helping kids serve at the Cattlemen Chuck Wagon at the fair and seeing them year after year. Jan declared “4-H is a great program all around to provide kids with opportunities to gain public speaking skills, learn about beef, animals, crops, sewing and even having water fights at the fair.”
