Sharie Leazer began her 27-year 4-H journey when her children enrolled in 4-H, and she became their leader. Her daughter remembers as they did projects at home, Sharie would often say, “You can turn that into a 4-H project!” She found passion in guiding youth, helping them develop leadership, communication, and life skills.  Sharie could often be found promoting 4-H by helping her club members decorate windows on the town square, hosting various 4-H workshops, or assisting with the community trunk or treat. Sharie Leazer

In addition to her many years as a 4-H leader, Sharie has shared her love and talent of growing plants by being a member of Master Gardeners for 11 years. A dear friend says, “If you walk in her garden, you will have the pleasure to see her talents in full bloom. You see God's handiwork with Sharie's love for color in all her plantings.” Taking her talents and hard work a step further, she volunteers at the Jefferson County Extension greenhouse where she works with youth and adults planting and transplanting vegetables. The produce grown is given to the local Lord's Cupboard food pantry.

Sharie served on various 4-H committees throughout the years and was an elected official on the Jefferson County Extension Council from 1999-2018. Sharie is one you can always count on and has done so much to give back to her 4-H members and the community. Sharie’s positive impact on those around her has inspired and encouraged others to give back as well. Sharie is known as a sweet and hard-working woman, always helping those in need while providing support and guidance.

Sharie is married to Jerry Leazer, and they have lived in rural Jefferson County for many years. They have 4 children: Troy, Angela, Stephanie, and Randall, and 2 grandsons: Liam and Seamus.  Sharie worked in the Fairfield School District as a special education associate for 21 years. Sharie is a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield, Iowa where she sings in the church choir, was a youth leader for many years, and is a devout Christian of faith.

Sharie is known for putting her whole heart into volunteering and teaching others important life skills. A previous 4-H member of Sharie’s club admires her by saying, “Sharie has been a great role model for my life. I hope to continue to give back to the 4-H community in the future, in hopes that I might be able to impact a 4-Her one day in the same way that she has impacted me.”
