Elaine Poppinga has been the chairman of the Floyd County Youth Committee for 10+ years. Her passion for 4-H started at the age of 10 in Humboldt County and has continued to inspire 4-H’ers in Floyd County for years.
With a heart for volunteerism, Elaine has coordinated numerous community service projects including but not limited to 4-H food stand, fair guides, judging record books, record book and project workshops. All in all putting in endless hours assisting and coordinating 4-H Youth Committee activities that have offered 4-H’ers ample opportunities to practice and develop lifelong skills.
Elaine has shared her love of livestock in more ways than one, even during a time when girls were not allowed to show animals in 4-H. She always wanted to show livestock and enjoyed helping on the family farm with animal chores. While in college she helped her younger brother prepare hogs and dairy to show at the Humboldt County Fair and Iowa State Fair. For over 25 years she attended and helped groom calves for her nieces and nephews at county and state fairs in Iowa and South Dakota.
With high expectations for Floyd County 4-H’ers, Elaine has always been diligent in recognizing the youth for their achievements and service. On numerous occasions, she has helped to emcee the 4-H awards night. Her desire to recognize the youth stemming from her own experiences in being selected for State Fair in team demonstrations.
In addition to her involvement in 4-H, Elaine is an active member of her church community and donates many hours helping her community and neighbors.
