Dean and Deb Ekstrand live on the family’s Century Farm in Pocahontas County. Dean grew up on the farm and was involved in the Grant Guides 4-H Club for 8 years, showing swine and dairy. Deb grew up in southeast Iowa, but was never involved in 4-H as a youth.
Dean and Deb moved to the family farm 25 years ago, and their oldest son joined 4-H. Deb became a leader of the Guys and Gals 4-H Club of Grant, the club where their 6 children were members.
Deb was leader for over 15 years! Dean served on livestock committees for a number of years as his children were involved in the swine project. Debs passion has been the communications program, encouraging members to participate.
Deb encourages members of the club to explore different project areas to find topics they are interested in learning more about and developing projects and exhibits to share what they learned.
Dean and Deb continue to volunteer with Extension and 4-H activities. 4-H has been an important part of the Ekstrand family’s life.
