Debbie has been involved with Davis County 4-H for the past 15 years as a leader and volunteer. During this time Debbie has shaped our young people’s minds to believe they can always do anything they have their minds set on. She is always pushing our 4-H’ers to try new things.
A few of the excellent qualities she possesses is her kindness and openness. Her doors are always open and accepting to those from all walks of life. When volunteers are needed from kitchen duty to planting trees, Debbie is always the first to clear her calendar, and I assure you, it’s generally a very full one. Debbie is a leader for the Chequest Eagles 4-H club in Davis County where she currently leads over 93 members. She is also the Shooting Sports Coordinator for our Shooting Sports club, the Bullseye Busters. She’s a member of our local 4-H foundation, where she helps coordinate fundraising efforts so our 4-H program is free for our young people. Debbie recently started a travel group in her 4-H club. They will be taking members to Chicago to experience what life is like outside of our rural community.
Debbie has the personality that attracts people like moths to a flame. Her positive attitude and infectious laugh make all around her have a great time. She volunteers in the Extension office helping prepare for the fair when help is needed.
Outside of 4-H, Debbie goes to her members band concerts, choir concerts, ball games, and other extra curricular activities. She takes all her members in as if they were her own, and supports them in and out of 4-H.
With Debbie’s years of experience, she is such an excellent resource when questions arise, and help is needed. Debbie is the definition of 4-H. She was a 4-H’er growing up, and from that, uses the qualities she learned to demonstrate to others how to be a leader, civil servant, and how to create youth-adult partnerships with her members. She leads by example.
It is without any doubt that Debbie Jarr is more than deserving of being in the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.
