Richard Pigman was never a 4-H member himself, but he has embodied the 4-H spirit in West Pottawattamie County for the past 20 years.
Aside from being a “4-H Dad” to Tyler and Brooke, he has served as chair of the West Pottawattamie Youth Committee, helped cook a 4-H alumni dinner and for many, many years and has been the state fair transport for the county’s static exhibits.
Even though his own children have graduated from 4-H, Richard comes back each year to take the exhibits to the Iowa State Fair. He has even been known to personally go to a member’s home to pick up exhibits, if it will help them out. He is always coming up with new ways to improve the check-in process and when getting a cart was an issue, Richard just built his own for the static exhibit check in!
His innovative manner has really helped out the county in many ways. In 2018, we wanted to bring the 4-H Alumni dinner back to the county fair. Richard helped cook the dinner in milk cans so 4-H alumni could enjoy a free meal at the fair. Richard and his family are long time fair supporters and contribute so much to the 4-H program, even after their own 4-H’ers have graduated.
West Pottawattamie appreciates his dedication to 4-H!
