Kossuth County is proud to recognize Faye Kuhlmann as an Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Inductee.  Faye volunteered countless hours for the 4-H youth in Kossuth County.  She was not a member of 4-H growing up, but all four of her children and several of her grandchildren were or will be 4-H club members. Faye Kuhlmann

Faye’s first volunteer experiences with 4-H were when her three oldest children joined 4-H clubs in Cresco township.  Her daughter joined the Cresco Boys 4-H Club to show cattle.  The Cresco Chums Girls 4-H Club worked primarily in three areas:  clothing, food and nutrition, and home furnishings.

Faye spent many years going to club meetings and helping the youth in Kossuth County with    4-H Day displays in the local business, preparing entries for the Band Festival parade, organizing and conducting an Achievement Show with an annual style show.  In the fall of 1972, she became a club leader with the Cresco Chums 4-H Club and remained a leader for more than 20 years, continuing after her own children had graduated.

Faye spent countless hours developing the 4-H club program for the year.  The leaders planned for hostesses, who would lead the 4-H Pledge and the Pledge of Allegiance and who would give the various presentations on different topics for each meeting.

Faye and her late-husband, Robert, coached and encouraged their four children; Bob, Kathy, Casey and Mike and numerous other youth through the Kossuth County 4-H program.  They encouraged them to participate in club activities as well as county and state activities.  Robert and Faye also participated in the first Beef Partner Program which led to lifetime friendship with others from the north end of the county!

Faye’s commitment to 4-H sparked a new interest in 1998.  Several other individuals who supported 4-H and other youth programs in the county formed the Friends of Kossuth Youth and 4-H Foundation.  Faye has served as the only chairperson for the group.  Her recent health condition hinders her ability to be involved anymore, but you will find her cheering on her youngest grandchildren. Soon those youngest grandchildren will be in a 4-H club and they will carry on the passion for 4-H she instilled in her youngest son.

Over the years, Faye has devoted thousands of hours to 4-H and has taught hundreds of Kossuth County 4-H youth.  We cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.
