The 2018 Des Moines County Hall of Fame inductees have many years of 4-H experience and involvement in 4-H on a vast variety of levels. From active 4-H club members, to committee members and leaders, to parents and now grandparents; many countless hours have been dedicated to the 4-H program.
They were actively involved in 4-H as they grew up whether showing livestock, completing static exhibits, or demonstrating a working exhibit; they always had time for 4-H.
These experiences were very beneficial for them as they moved into the next chapter of their 4-H lives as 4-H parents. They raised three very active 4-H members and supported them in many ways.
Ron served as a 4-H leader for his son’s Justin and Nathan. He served on the 4-H Beef Committee for many years, helped out with set up days, and those wonderful early morning weigh-ins. As an active member of the Des Moines County Cattlemen’s Association, Ron was instrumental in getting the showmanship belt buckle awards started and assisted with creating the beef production carcass class.
Joyce served as the Des Moines County youth coordinator for four years, in addition to being a club leader for her daughter, Stacy, for many years. She served on many committees in her 4-H career and currently serves on the 4-H youth committee, goat committee, and rabbit committee. She is always willing to host a small group project day or coordinate a share the fun skit.
As grandparents to three active 4-H members; Brock, Cora and Isaac, you can always expect to see them at the fair. They might be helping get projects to the gym, assisting with getting animals to the arena, taking pictures to complete the infamous record books, or just serving as a support system on auction day.
It with great pleasure to honor the 2018 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame inductees from Des Moines County…Ron and Joyce Stover.
